There are different versions of how his name came about. The first version of the story is related to the shade of the Holy Mountain (in Greek skia), the second version comes from paraphrasing the Ancient City of the area (Siggos) which in the following years took the name Siggia and finally Sikija. Moreover, the existence of an old large tree (in Greek Sikia) around when the village was built is a possible version.
